Best places to get gluten free food in Rome

Rome’s food scene is famous for its delicious offerings, but if you’re gluten-free, you may be wondering how challenging it will be to find a gluten free restaurant in Rome with so many wheat-heavy dishes around.
Surprisingly, finding gluten free restaurants in Rome is easier than what you may expect. I have compiled a list of the best gluten free restaurants in Rome as of 2024:
Pro Tip » If you are planning where to find gluten free restaurants in Rome, bookmark this post in your browser so you can easily find these places when you are in the city. |

The following places are accredited by the Coeliac Association in Italy (AIC) with the highest standards of safety. |
1. Mama Eat Lab

Mama Eat Lab is a casual place with an informal atmosphere, but don’t be deceived by its relaxed exterior; the food is delicious, making it hard even for non-coeliacs not to like it.
While there are Mama Eat restaurants across Italy, and even a few in Rome, only the one located in Borgo Pio (near the Vatican City) is 100% gluten-free.
The menu is extensive, including a great selection of starters, mains, pasta, pizza and desserts, and is also available in multiple languages.
The staff is very helpful, with a big shoutout to Ernesto who was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable—you’ll feel in safe hands!
Seating might be limited, especially if you are visiting Rome during peak seasons, but it’s well worth the wait – possibly the best gluten free pizza crust I have ever eaten.

2. Pasta in Corso Gluten Free

Pasta in Corso Gluten Free is a lunch spot located in both Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Via della Maddalena, just a few minutes away from some of the city’s top attractions.
The staff there were extremely helpful, with good enough English skills to communicate with the tourists. They provided us with a prompt service so you won’t find yourself waiting too long for your order.
They have a separate gluten free menu, offering a considerable variety of gluten-free options to choose from, all of them freshly prepared in a separate gluten free kitchen and coming out marked separately as GF.
Maybe not the right place if you are looking for pizza as the menu mainly consists of pasta.
The prices were very reasonable with several deal options so you can have a lunch meal for as little as €15. You can also reserve a table or order online.

3. Pizza In Trevi

The attention to detail and care at this restaurant will make you feel completely at ease. From the moment you enter, you’re made aware of their seriousness about avoiding any potential cross-contamination. Place mats, glasses, and cutlery are immediately replaced if any guest presents an allergy, allowing them to be discreetly recognized. They also have a separate preparation area for gluten-free dishes.
The entire menu can be prepared gluten-free, so it’s reassuring to know that you can order the same dishes as any other non-coeliac person at your table. It includes appetizers, first courses, pasta, pizza, and desserts.
However, the prime location of this place, situated right in the heart of Rome and just a few meters away from the Trevi Fountain, makes it somewhat touristy, resulting in slightly higher prices compared to other options.
Two recommendations if you decide to visit: make a reservation, and don’t forget to visit their 100% gluten-free gelato place next door!

This place is an absolute must for any coeliacs visiting Rome. Not only is the food delicious but the atmosphere is simply wonderful, with outdoor seating right in Piazza Campo De’ Fiori. Every dish on the menu can be prepared gluten free in a separate kitchen and they are also very attentive about your utensils.
The waiters here are very attentive and friendly, they take their time to go through the gluten free menu with you and explain their procedures to prevent cross-contamination, so you will feel at ease.
You can’t leave without trying their tiramisu!

5. El Maiz

If you are in Rome for more than a couple of days and feel like you could do with a break from the Italian cuisine, El Maiz is your place. This Venezuelan street food spot is a cozy little place just around the corner from the Vatican Museums. The portions are generous and the flavours are out of this world — expect some of the best arepas and empanadas you’ll ever taste. Plus, the entire menu is 100% gluten-free and offers excellent value for your money.
They’ve got a super easy electronic ordering system that can be translated into English, so no worries about needing to speak Italian here.
The owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly, adding to the overall experience.

BONUS: New Food Gluten Free Ponte Sisto

Although technically it isn’t a restaurant, I couldn’t not include this place in the best gluten free restaurants in Rome category. This 100% gluten-free spot is a gem nestled between the Trastevere neighbourhood and Campo di Fiori, serving primarily pastries and desserts – if you have a sweet tooth, you’re in for a real treat; from the Sicilian cannoli to the Roman maritozzi, and everything in between.
They also offer pizza slices sold by weight and some ready-made meals that you can take home, such as delicious lasagna.
However, don’t expect indoor seating; it’s all about enjoying your snack on the bench outside while taking a break from your city stroll.
The friendly lady behind the counter mentioned they also have a restaurant, New Food Experience, so you may want to check that one too!
