Best places to get pizza in Rome Italy

Although pizza may not be as popular in Rome as it is in other Italian cities like Naples, pizza restaurants and trattorias still play a significant role in Rome’s food scene. In fact, Rome is renowned for its Roman-style pizza, known as scrocchiarella, which has a very thin crust and just a few toppings.
Whether you’re looking to try the oval-shaped Pinsa Romana, the classic pizza from Naples, the Roman scrocchiarella or just grab a slice of pizza al taglio, I’ve got you covered – here are my top 5 pizzerias for the best pizza in Rome.

1. Pizzeria La Boccaccia

If you’re looking for the best Rome pizza al taglio, or pizza by the slice, this is the place!
I found this pizzeria by chance on my way to the Colosseum and had to come back another day to try more. The place is small, but you can eat at the stools or take it to go.
There’s a wide selection of pizza by the slice, including classic flavours and some unusual topping combinations.
The dough is light and crunchy so it doesn’t feel heavy at all and the prices are unbeatable.
Prices: < €10 per person.

This place is located in the Prati neighbourhood, just a few meters from the Vatican Museums. It offers more than 10 varieties of pinsa, categorised as ‘red’ or ‘white’ (rosse and bianche) depending on whether they have tomato sauce or not.
Each pinsa is around €5, making it a budget-friendly meal with generous portions – one pinsa is enough to feed one person.
The pinsas are displayed and then heated in the oven when ordered, ensuring they are freshly cooked. The friendly owner speaks excellent English. There are very few seats inside with a couple of tables outside but they also do take-away.

The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven, which gives them that authentic taste you’re looking for.
The staff here are really friendly, and even though the restaurant gets quite busy, the service doesn’t slow down and the food comes out quickly.

It may seem doubtful that you could find the best pizza in Rome at a franchise, but Pizzium proves otherwise, with a mix of Italian traditions and top-quality ingredients. It offers some of the tastiest Neapolitan-style pizza in the city.
The toppings are fresh and perfectly balanced – I’m sure you will want to come back to try more flavours. They even serve their own craft beer called Birrium.
Pizzium has several locations throughout Italy, as well as a few across Rome but the one in Via Alessandria is my favourite – the service is super attentive, making you feel at home, and the rustic atmosphere gives you a sense of a traditional Italian kitchen.
Reservations can conveniently be made online via their website.

If you are craving pizza al taglio from a charming spot, visit box 22 at the Testaccio Market.
The unusual yet terrific pizza topping combinations rotate with the seasons, guaranteeing the freshest ingredients.
They’ve got premade pizzas on display and heat them up when you order. The crust is amazing, made from dough that rises for four days and uses four different flours for easy digestion.
Their menu covers a variety of options, including white, special, classic, stuffed, and even sweet pizzas like Nutella or peanut butter flavours. The pizzas are sold by weight.
