Trastevere is a charming and picturesque neighbourhood in Rome and a must-see area for any visitor to the Eternal City. With its cobblestone streets, colourful buildings and lively atmosphere, this area is a favourite among locals and tourists.

It’s also one of the best places to eat in Rome. Trastevere’s food scene is exceptional, with multiple trattorias, pizzerias, osterias, and street food vendors serving authentic Roman cuisine. I have tried some of the most authentic cacio e pepe, supplì (fried rice balls) and porchetta here.

However, with its growing popularity over the past years, the area is also filled with restaurants aimed at tourists that claim to serve authentic Roman dishes. To help you avoid these tourist-oriented places, I have put together a list of the best restaurants in Trastevere Rome as of 2025, where you can enjoy an authentic Roman dining experience.

Tonnarello is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Trastevere and a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy the Italian cuisine. Its magical location, right in the picturesque neighbourhood of Trastevere, and its lively vibe make it a perfect spot to enjoy traditional Roman food.

The menu is extensive and includes all the Roman classics – foccacia, carbonara, cacio pepe, to name a few. The portions are big and the prices are fair. The four-cheese pizza and the mussels are also highly rated, so they’re worth a try too.

They have an extensive indoor seating area and a few tables outside. Although they are typically busy due to their popularity, the staff works hard to seat you as quickly as possible. Once you are seated, the service is outstanding, helping you choose the best dishes to experience some of the best Roman food.

Unfortunately, they don’t take reservations. The good news is that the restaurant has two locations next to each other (literally within 100 meters apart), so make sure to check the other one if the queue is long.
